Maybe We're Not Meant To Be | Meghan Tonjes

What makes character? Is it something we’re born with, or is it something that is learned?
And for that matter, who decides what makes the definition between a good and bad character? Is there some sort of chart that’s filled out? Are there levels of goodness and badness? What if your good and bad characteristics cancel each other out? Does that just make you neutral?
We build our character by ourselves; it’s a supremely solitary thing. It’s like building a house from the ground up—one brick at a time. The experiences we have change us, the lessons we learn help us grow. But who’s to determine that in lieu of growing flowers in my garden, I’ve grown weeds instead? And who decides whether or not that they are any less beautiful than an armful of tulips?
